The place is the easier way in. Anyone identifying a pack usually knows where it was made, but not yet the period — and the name of the state at the time is exactly what one would have to look up (Electorate of Saxony, or already the Kingdom of Saxony?). Enter Dresden and this page searches across all states Dresden belonged to over time, taking from each only the years it actually held sovereignty there. For Salzburg, this also brings in the Bavarian stamps of 1810 to 1816.
